Primary Programmes

The Primary course with The South Downs SCITT will prepare you to teach the 5 to 11 age range. This course offers a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from The University of Chichester as well as Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

The course is full time for 1 year and starts in September. You will undertake two placements in schools and train to teach in 2 consecutive Key Stages (1 and 2).

There will be complementary 3 day placements in a special school and in Early Years/Reception and Key Stage 3.

Training with the SCITT will be on Fridays and you will be in your school Mondays to Thursdays. You will be supported throughout your placement by our Primary Tutor both at the SCITT and in your schools.

Secondary Programmes

The Secondary courses with The South Downs SCITT will prepare you to teach the 11-16 age range. This course offers a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from The University of Chichester  as well as Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

We offer training in English, Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computing, French, German, Spanish, History, Geography, Drama, Art & Design and PE. The course is full time for 1 year and starts in September. You will undertake two placements in schools and train to teach in 2 consecutive Key Stages (3 and 4).

There will be complementary 3 day placements in a special school and in Key Stages 2 and 5.

Training with the SCITT will be on Fridays and you will be in your school Mondays to Thursdays. You will be supported throughout your placement by our Subject Tutors both at the SCITT and in your schools.

Pre-Course Tasks:

Our induction will be on Thursday 4th July 2019 at Durrington High School.

Before your induction and leading up to September there is plenty that you need to be doing.  Let us know if you need any help or guidance with any of the following:

  1. Pass your Professional Skills Tests.
  2. Complete your paperwork for DBS and do the Health Check.
  3. Complete any other conditions of your offer and as soon as they are done then let us know, e.g. SKEs, GCSEs, Degrees.
  4. Apply for a Student Loan and Maintenance Loan if appropriate as soon as possible (Remember the Provider for this is The South Downs SCITT)
  5. Computing, Chemistry, Geography, Languages, Maths and Physics trainees can apply for a Scholarship https://getintoteaching.education.gov.uk/funding-and-salary/overview/scholarships
  6. Complete the subject knowledge audit – we will send this to you.
  7. Complete the pre-course tasks – we will send these to you.
